Soleheaven.com just launched this promo/music video at the start of the month featuring UK rapper Jehst (who Pete Greaves thinks used to ride) along with Smoove, Micall Parknsun and DJ Jazz T. Also in the video are a few local faces including Pete G aka Chaffy G, Olly Olsen, The Roops and The Make’s Chris “The Count” Lee.
Right i’ve wasted long enough writing this post, i’ve just been caught up in an internet trip down memory lane checking out old blogs, looking at old photos, trying to find the first photos from Street Phire’s Toon Fools series but allas no luck. So for those of you who haven’t seen or heard of this feature from back in the past, basically I used to go riding with the lads, take my camera and 50mm lens out and get snap happy documenting what was happening on our BMX’s. This weekend it’s snowing and no one is out so i’ve decided to put it to good use and throw up the photos from last Sunday’s session where it was actually warm and dry, can you believe we hit double figures for the first time in the past 4 months (or probably more).
Enjoy some of the snaps from the day, i’ll caption what I can and if the weather gets better then there’ll be more of this in the future! Read more →
This shot isn’t even that old, it was taken in 2011 in the infamous Byker (Byker Grove) area of Newcastle. We needed a promo photo for the Seventies catalogue for The Make section so Chris and I headed out to this rail that he wanted to get a grind to grizz on. It’s right outside a metro station (underground) so it’s sometimes a bust but not normally as they’ve usually got bigger fish to fry. We did a few different shots but this one came out the most tweaked, I almost cut his head off on the framing but as he flew higher and faster out of the rail on this attempt.
A simple two flash set up, the main flash was set to F9 and the rim flash would have been about F11 but it didn’t pop as much as I’d wanted. Either way though it came out sweet and we were both happy with it. Enjoy this weeks Throwback Thursday and we’ll see you next week innit.
Well it’s been just over a week since the snow melted up here in Newcastle but we are now clear of it and the riding street riding has been getting done once more. Back in 2010 we had loads of snow around Christmas time, normally this would deter most BMXers from attempting to get out of bed let alone take advantage of the snow. However the one and only Chris “The Count” Lee and crew decided this could be a great opportunity to ride what normally wouldn’t be a spot. Over in Heaton Park there was a set of stairs that had been transformed into a flat bank and at the bottom we built a kicker over the fence to make it possible to ride. Below you can see one of the photos we got from the escapades, of course the run out was nigh on impossible to roll away from so when he landed it was a case of either stopping dead on the spot or being chucked over the bars..
A good crew met up at the weekend in near baltic conditions to have a session at Five Bridges, the crew was Olly, Pete, Jake, Newrick, The Count, Cookie and myself (H Man). Newrick had the VX2000 at the ready and clocked enough footage in a hungover state (very much like the rest of us) for a quick wed edit to celebrate Cookie’s 25th. Hope you enjoy the ride, thanks to Grey Haven for the link.
