Sunday Sessions: Tails from the Weekend

Nope not the Weeknd the guy who said he didn’t rip off Portishead when its kind of obvious that he did (the beats in the song..) but the Weekend which went down recently (but not this one..).

Well im glad thats out the way, an over complicated intro to a fun weekend riding in the Team Valley area of Gateshead. Even when people say there isn’t anything to ride there, what they actually mean is that its pretty hard to find things when hit with the daunting task of a giant industrial estate and faceless corporation buildings but amongst all the crap there are gems, hidden places of beauty or in geek terms Easter Eggs (Microsoft Office ’97 XL for those old enough to remember Office 1997). It has been just over a week since the Northeast BMX BBQ Jam went down at Five Bridges and the Wasteland, you can read the article and look and some pics right here but if you’ve been waiting for the edit to drop of the goings on from the day then Ryan Lilburn has just came up with the goods, literally 15 minutes ago the video was uploaded to YouTube and here it is.

The Five Bridges bit was because of our lovely UK weather we have but then once it cleared up everyone moved onto the Wasteland Jam where some pretty mental stuff went down. Good riding, good session was had, great memories and a great edit by the man, go check out his site for some pics and more about what he does right here > www.ryanlilburn.com/nclbmxjam

South Shields, Twas Sunny…

Last weekend Olly and I hit up our old home town of South Shields to meet up with Marc Bell and Jamie Whitts to have a chilled ride, see some new spots that are under development and to ride some places we rode many years ago. Northern Child who jumped the Great Wall of China came out for all of an hour before he couldn’t stand the thought of his car not being parked near enough and disappeared.. no doubt back off to China to eye up a bigger trick over said wall. Throwback Thursday: Marc Bell

April 11, 2013

Hearing that Marc Bell was getting back into riding a couple of years ago was some of the best BMX news i’d heard in ages! Marc was a legend in the North East, he had shut down rails that even at today’s standards would still not be approached by most. The most memorable rail of his era was the gap to rail at Newcastle United’s St James’ Park which you can see at the beginning of his shared section with Rob Strong in NSF2 after the photo.

Within weeks of Marc getting back into riding he was out eyeing up stuff he’d spotted in the past. We went to this spot over in Jarrow which had a meaty rail one side that he’d already done years ago and a possible hop over into a bank on the other. The bank was about as thin as this photo shows and I had to make a quick exit to clear the path for him once he’d chucked the Geoff’s. I had always wanted to get some decent photos of Marc and finally the chance was in front of me.
